Abstract:

159 items: Primarily correspondence and research files (including notecards, typed transcripts, clippings and photostats) relating to Alpheus Thompson, a Maine sea captain who moved to Santa Barbara and married a daughter of Carlos Antonio Carillo. Brown edited the book China Trade Days in California, published by U.C. Press, which was compilation of ThompsonÆs letters. Collection also contains files on history of Santa Rosa Island and the 1848 Mexican Claims Commission.
