Jimmy Hatlo, a cartoonist for the San Francisco Call Bulletin newspaper, started his strip "They'll Do It Every Time" in 1929. Beginning in 1936 it was distributed nationally by King Features Syndicate. His "Little Iodine", a character sometimes featured in the strip, was given her own series starting in 1943. After Hatlo's death in 1963, "They'll Do It Every Time" was continued by Bob Dunn.
