William Andrews Clark, Jr. ; bequest; 1934.
Some ambiguity exists with respect to the identity of Alexander Warfield, as he is frequently confused with Col. Charles Alexander Warfield, a Colonel in the Republic of Texas Army and the leader of the Warfield Expedition in 1843. It is more likely that the man whose papers are in this collection is Alexander Warfield (formerly of Massachusetts), an Indian trader who lived in the county west of Arkansas, in what is today Oklahoma.
