Abstract:
The collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, conference materials, draft publications, press releases, and videotapes, 1993-1997 (1 linear foot), document Edward Zold's work with ACT UP Golden Gate in campaigning to make AIDS Health Policy.
In addition to direct action, Zold worked on ACT UP Golden Gate’s behalf as a liaison to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Zold was an active member of the CDC’s Prevention Marketing Initiative (PMI) committee. Zold collaborated with the PMI on the “Respect Yourself, Protect Yourself" public service announcement campaign in 1995, which resulted in radio and television ads that, for the first time, mentioned gay men. Zold also contributed to the PMI’s 1996 publication, "Applying Prevention Marketing."
From 1993-1997, Zold maintained contact with several other organizations, including the San Francisco Department of Health, the National Institute of Health, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, AIDS Watch, Mothers' Voices, and the Ryan White Project. Zold also attended several AIDS related conferences during this period, including the 1997 Mothers' Voices conference, which determined federal AIDS policy for the following five years.
