Abstract:
The Women's Unit was created in view of the fact that women of Mexican decent carry the burden of their gender in addition to their racial and class status and that efforts by the CSRC to address and rectify Chicano oppression largely ignored sexism. The Women's Unit was officially established in 1985 to define and promote Chicana / Mexicana Studies and to advance the social, political, and economic welfare of the Chicana / Mexicana community.
